WPL Meg Lanning: Bowlers Help Delhi Capitals Reclaim Top Spot

From the skipper Mega Lanning, a measured half-century was pursued by an all-round performance from the bowlers. In the 10th match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), Delhi Capitals defeated Gujrat Giants by 25 runs in Bengaluru to reclaim the highest spot in the standings.

This is the third victory of Delhi for this season. This is because Gujrat Gaints has suffered their fourth continuous loss on the trot. In this season, the Giants haven’t won a single match yet. After the skipper, Lanning’s innings of 55 off 41 balls took Delhi to 163 for eight, with Jess Jonassen and Radha Yadav taking three wickets each to limit Gu.

Pursuing the target, scored 138 runs for eight wickets. The guiding force of the Delhi Capitals was the Lanning’s inning. It was taken to a solid score, despite a flurry of late wickets. The target of the Gujrat Giants was never reached and they ultimately failed. Even after the excellent performance of 40 runs in 31 balls of the Ashleigh Gardner. With the ingenious spell of Jonassen led the bowling of Delhi Capitals and also got great support from Radha Yadav. This win took Delhi to the top of the table with six points. Gujrat got off to a shaky beginning, as they gave away a maiden over in the very first over to WPL Debutant fast bowler Titas Sadhu.

As they experienced Fast bowler Shikha Pandey dismissing Laura Wolvaardt with a delivery that was too quick to defeat her swat, their beginning got worse. However, as the captain Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield jointly scored 15 runs, that were bowled by Pandey, also the veterans got some flow in the fourth over. It was just an isolated spark when the Giants flattered against Jonassen. The Australian spinner dismissed Mooney and Litchfield in the space of four balls, in the fifth over. And also reduced the Gujrat Gaints’ score to 34 for three.

While beating pacer Annabel Sutherland for two fours, Gardner showed her power and a six in the 12th over to make a total of 16 runs. It has given a touch of hope to the Giants but it was not for a long period. Jonassen gasped that out when she had Gardner stumped by Taniya Bhatia. Earlier, Yadav took the important wicket of Veda. Krishnamurthy and Katherine Bryce had to struggle in Gujarat, tying any significant partnership together. Before pacing her innings well, lanning used her experience. With this, also built a couple of collaborations after the Giants opted to field first.

As usual, Shafali Verma flew off with a score of six and four off left-arm spinner Tanuja Kanwar, however, her cameo came to an ending very soon. Quick flick from fast bowler Meghna Sharma, Gujarat’s most successful bowler taking four wickets. However, it went clear to Wolvaardt near backward square leg. The dismissal brought together Lanning, who scored 30, and the in-form Alice Capsey. She achieved 38 runs for the second wicket, which allowed Delhi to reach 51 for 1 in the force play segment. After Capsey’s departure, for the third wicket, Jemimah Rodrigues helped Lanning add 47 runs. This course removed some top shots out of the draw, and the lanning relieved her low-gear strategy.

WPL In just 39 balls, lanning reached her fifty, although it couldn’t stay in the middle for a long time. As her laceration off Meghana fixed in the hands of D Hemalatha at cover point. The return of Lanning to the dugout raced Delhi’s attempt to up the scoring rate. This is because they misplaced wickets at frequent intervals. They also failed to bring a boundary for 24 balls between 15.2 and 19.3 overs. However, they had placed sufficient runs on the board by then.
